What We Do
Prior to MPP policy which kept migrants in Mexico, we worked to provide organized and efficient volunteer groups to serve with Catholic Charities Respite Center in McAllen. We have sorted donations, served food and assisted families with needs as they travel on. We have purchased and distributed needed supplies, particularly clothing. We hope to return to this work as soon as it is safe to do so.
When migrants were no longer permitted to cross the border, a large tent camp developed in Matamoros. We worked in conjunction with Team Brownsville to provide educational opportunities to migrant children, to prepare and serve food and to supply and distribute specific items, like medicine, shoes, diapers, warm clothing, tents, mats and solar powered lanterns.
In Austin and Dallas we assist Refugee Services of Texas in their efforts to resettle refugees. Currently, because of CoVid 19, we are limited to setting up new apartments and providing needed resources.
